Creating a comfortable, stylish outdoor living room is one of the best ways to enjoy Tempe’s beautiful weather year-round. From relaxing under a custom pergola to hosting friends under soft evening lights, an outdoor living space adds comfort, value, and curb appeal to your home.
At Blue Sky Landscape & Design, we specialize in transforming Arizona backyards into functional, climate-smart retreats. If you’re ready to enhance your outdoor space, here’s how the right shade structures, pergolas, and landscape lighting can make all the difference.
Why Outdoor Living Rooms Are Perfect for Tempe Homes
Tempe homeowners love spending time outside — but the desert heat and strong sun can limit how often you use your backyard. A thoughtfully designed outdoor living room provides:
- Comfort and shade for year-round use
- Protection from UV rays and heat
- Added living space for entertaining and relaxing
- Improved home value and curb appeal
- Energy savings, since shaded patios reduce indoor cooling costs
With the right combination of shade, lighting, and design, you can turn your backyard into a true outdoor extension of your home.
Custom Shade Structures for Arizona’s Climate
In Tempe, shade isn’t just nice to have — it’s essential. Our team designs and installs a variety of shade solutions built to withstand the desert sun, including:
- Pergolas – Elegant open-frame structures that define outdoor rooms while providing filtered shade. Choose from wood, steel, or low-maintenance aluminum designs.
- Solid patio covers – Great for complete protection from sun and rain, ideal for outdoor kitchens or lounging areas.
- Shade sails – A modern, budget-friendly option that adds both style and cooling relief.
- Masonry shade structures – Permanent, durable, and designed to match your home’s architecture.
Each structure is custom-built for your property, ensuring it complements your space while delivering maximum comfort and durability.
Outdoor Lighting: Set the Mood and Enhance Safety
Evenings in Tempe are made for spending time outdoors — and the right landscape lighting transforms your patio or garden into a cozy, welcoming retreat.
Blue Sky’s lighting designs include:
- Pathway and accent lighting for safety and curb appeal
- Pergola or bistro lights for warm, ambient glow
- Uplighting and downlighting to highlight trees, walls, or architectural features
- Smart, energy-efficient LED systems for long-lasting performance
Professional lighting not only adds beauty and functionality but also improves security by illuminating dark corners and walkways.
Integrate Comfort and Style with Outdoor Features
Your outdoor living room can be more than just shade and lighting — it can be a fully functional entertainment zone. Popular additions include:
- Outdoor kitchens and BBQ islands
- Built-in seating and fire pits
- Synthetic turf or putting greens
- Water features for a relaxing touch
- Paver patios and hardscapes for seamless design flow
Blue Sky Landscape & Design integrates all of these features into cohesive layouts tailored for Arizona living.
